Check out a writeup I did over on Bronco6g.com which really irritated the towing experts lol. Even with a 3700 pound trailer, I’m still WELL within the operational limits of the bronco’s axles, cargo carrying capacity, etc…
January 7th 2023, a team from Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery made attempt #2 to reach a subaru that was stuck in deep snow NW of Nederland, CO.
They had tried earlier in the week and the snow conditions were just so deep at each end of the trail that it was essentially impossible to break through it with the resources on hand. Fast forward to the weekend, and we had ample time to put together a team that simply couldn’t fail.
One of our members was able to borrow a rollback truck from his company, Armstrong Sweeping, and was also able to secure a skid steer from Precision Milling. The skidder was priceless in clearing the worst of the ice crusted drifts so the team could chain up and snow bash their way to the top of the mountain to recover the subaru.
Along the way, we had the power wagon pop off the radiator hose from the top of the radiator. And we also had a JK lock up an idler pulley and shred a serpentine belt. Luckily, our amazing team had a member ready to roll in town, hit up multiple dealerships to source all the parts we needed and come up the mountain. It was like uber eats for car parts!
Everyone was off the mountain by 5 PM and I was home eating dinner by 7!
After taking a year off trail riding I wanted to get back into it. So I topped off the sealant in the tubeless tires and gave it a rip over the lunch hour today. 7.36 miles from Prairie Ridge Open Space over to Coyote Ridge Open Space, and started to make my way up the hill when the legs said no more! Gotta build that endurance level up a bit before I try that climb again.
The weekend of May 21st I went camping with my Scout Troop to be their shooting sports instructor for the weekend. We left town in a crazy late spring snowstorm not knowing if we should have cancelled the campout, and ended up in a totally blown forecast of pure sun, 60 degree temps, and sunburns!
The epic day of target shooting began after a huge breakfast scrambler, and we worked on rifle shooting until lunch time, followed up by shotgun shooting all afternoon until we literally ran out of ammo. It was an epic day.
Multiple new scouts and new shooters 1st times behind a firearm, and they absolutely rocked it. Being a BSA shooting sports instructor is one of the most fun things you can ever do.
Saturday April 9th I went up the switzerland trail with a team from Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery to help extract a rolled Land Rover from a week prior. Driver was headed down the steep slope and hit a solid sheet of ice, careened down the hill and rolled the vehicle 1 time.
Another team went up Thursday to pull the vehicle back onto the trail and get it on its wheels, unfortunately I couldn’t clear my schedule to get on that operation.
I recently drove 2400 miles with a 8 x 24 foot cargo trailer helping my brother relocate to central Texas for a really sweet job opportunity. It was a whole family affair, but I had the largest truck capable of such a feat. My estimate was the trailer weighed somewhere around 10,000 pounds based on gas pedal inputs and towing similar weights.
If you’d like to see what I pack in the three day SHTF bag that rolls around with me on deployments, check out the video here! We go in-depth to every compartment and I’ll show you my supplemental cold weather gear that also tags along in the winter time.
